More than a dozen of the Houston Police Department's top brass have applied for the job of police chief, along with ten outsiders, including a private investigator, a former sheriff's deputy and a top seller at a Houston electronics store.
In all, 22 men and four women are asking Houston Mayor Annise Parker to appoint them chief of the Houston Police Department, according to copies of applications obtained by the Houston Chronicle. None of the applicants are from major police departments, although the chiefs of several small towns have applied.
